PANIPAT: Two persons who jumped off the train shortly before the blasts at the Deewana railway station on Sunday midnight saying they had boarded a wrong train is a proof enough to suggest that the terrorists were very much on board the Samjhauta Express. And they could have been the ones who had masterminded the whole operation. But were there only two of them? If one is to go by the list handed over by the railways to the district administration Panipat, there were 43 people who haven’t reached Pakistan, haven’t died in the blasts, and are neither among the injured admitted to Safdarjung Hospital. However, they boarded the train as per the information they have provided to Panipat administration.
Additional deputy commissioner Panipat Amit Aggarwal said, "The initial list they gave us on Monday comprised names of 610 passengers who boarded the train at Delhi. However, the new list available with us has 650 passengers based on the tickets given to the passengers. They haven’t really been cooperative with us. In fact, they have added to the confusion. Everytime, we are getting new figures."
Divisional railway manager H K Jaggi said, "I only have the figures of the people who left Ambala which is 527. I will not be able to tell how many people boarded train at Delhi." Sources said even if the figure of 610 is considered final, there are some missing people who are neither among the dead, injured and those who reached Pakistan. The number of those who reached Attari is said to be 527 though, the figure available at the help counter set up in civil hospital Panipat on Tuesday morning was 494 in nine coaches. Asked to clarify the figures, deputy commissioner of Panipat Rajeev Ranjan said, "We will not be able to say anything about the number of passengers who reached Attari or the ones who boarded train at Delhi."
